What I see with "Une Semaine de Bonte"

1) A beggar that sat at the center of everything in a small town up the mountains slowly took out a golden shiny rooster on a ball from her dress as people continued to walk past her. Some began to take an interest in her, as she began to pick herself up and dance overshadowing the tiny object. As more people continued to crowd around her waiting to seem some interesting show like the jugglers or performers, the object began to shine. The ball suddenly threw a burst of lighting in every direction hitting every single person, one by one everyone started to collapse as she continued to dance.

2) The door that led below the castle had finally opened after what seemed centuries. A man held a women who looked to be dying, could the books be true or was it all a myth? Rushing through the dark and dusty hallway, a light at the end started to build up. The light blinded him the second he passed the torches and found himself in a room, across from him was a man in a dark cloak. Could this have been the doctor they were looking for? The one in the cloak began to mutter words, then slowly reached his hood. Pulling it off, the man holding the women could not believe his eyes, sweat began to run down his face as he hands trembled. The myth was a true, the man in the dark cloak was the doctor, a huge chicken?

3) It was quiet in a huge cemetery building, in the distance from an open window appeared two individuals from the skies. Swooping into the building, a chicken with mechanical wings with a women on top finally landed. With a paper of writing in both their hands, they began to look around. The first name they had wasn't going to make it easier to find the deceased women. After what seemed to be a couple of hours, the chicken called out to the women who was on the other side of the building, making her way over, he points to the name. They both nodded at each other in understanding and lifted the slab which revealed a dark blue coffin. The chicken proceeded to pull open the coffin with an odd wedged hammer, to reveal a women dressed in expensive jewelry and clothes. As she laid there, the women above was adamant to take everything from and began to strip as the chicken looked out. Without paying attention, a guard of the cemetery suddenly jumps out from the dark, lighting his lamp. At that moment the two were caught.

A Perspective I Never Expected - Maus Book 1 & 2

As people have mentioned, "Maus" brought the graphic novel back into the literary marketplace, I finally understand the cause. Artie who is the son of Vladek comes home to find his father has a story of how he lived in Czestochowa. This of course turns into how he met his mother who back then had problems with depression which he ended up taking her to get treated. Upon this whole travel, he discovers that rise of nazism around Europe. His own factory is destroyed, he fights as a soldier but gets kidnapped, and through certain events everyone in the family from him to Anja's family are sent to concentration camps. A lot happens that I can't even imagine people had to go through back then, lives are lost but Vladek and Anja manage to make it through everything. Leading to the future, it turns out Artie is somehow mad at his father for her mothers death, including that he burned all his mother's journals from the war. All in all, it was an interesting read and wor...

Comics as Contemporary Literature

"Asterios Polyp" by David Mazzucchelli was an interesting read from beginning to end, especially that sudden unexpected appearance of that meteorite that I'm pretty sure didn't leave any survivors behind. The overall structure of the art was beautifully created, especially the construct of speech bubbles that varied in every person including their design which would visualize each and everyone's personalities. This art particularly gave me a connection to the reading in understanding how everyone is not the same and we all work in our own different and unique way. Though Asterios and Hana's structure were very different, they were somehow in sync at the party they met at which I appreciated.

Looking at EC Comics, Carl Barks, and The Adventures of TinTin

The various categories of stories from EC Comics is without a doubt wordy, but not so much that it is confusing. It clearly sends the message to readers on how each scene is supposed to play out which is very interesting because the art applied to each page is enough to be adapted into an old movie or television show that I would definitely watch more than once. Though the layout is not as a unique as other comics I have seen, it definitely catches my eye through the actions that take place in every panel. Whatever inspired Carl Barks to create these pieces, I would love to know them. His work is visually pleasing to both my eyes and my mind. All of his pieces drive my creative thinking of storytelling which is what I continually thrive for and his color schemes and compositions are also interesting. I can gladly admit that as a child I had taken an interest in TinTin, though I never bought any of the books I did enjoy reading them whenever I found myself in bookstores. Though I lo...
